Principal Mechanical Engineer

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a number of Principal Mechanical Engineers to be based in either Warrington, Cumbria, or Preston with remote working on a long-term contract basis.
Your Day-to-Day:

• Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the Mechanical Engineering discipline
• Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team.
• Responsible for the development key design deliverables such as Design Proposal Drawings, Mechanical Flow Diagrams and Detailed Design Drawings. Checking and Approval of scoping and FEA calculations.
• Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards.
• Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
• Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
• Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
• Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
• Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
• Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM
• Present Mechanical engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related.
• Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
• Production and checking of safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report.
• Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions and develop programme logic at bid / tender stages.
• Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company's capabilities
• Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
• Chartered Member of the IMechE preferred
• Minimum 8+ years' experience in nuclear industry or highly regulated industry and at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level
• Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques applicable to mechanical design.
• Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products / plant and equipment
• Must be legally eligible to work in the UK
