There are a number of fantastic opportunities to lead and deliver this agenda. We are looking for a Heads of Service to provide strategic leadership to our planning, services an expert Service Manager to lead the implementation of our ambitions through our Local Policy framework and a strategic Infrastructure Co-ordinator to ensure that our major development is supported by appropriate facilities of the right scale and at the right time.

Leading one of the Planning Teams this role reflects the need for strategic thinking. The post holder will be the interface with senior leaders both inside and outside the organisation including elected Members.

We are striving to develop excellence in Development Management, infrastructure planning and policy development.  The service has a vision to be an exemplar locally and nationally in delivering our corporate aims and pledges, tackling the climate emergency and ensuring a high-quality environment for our residents.

Your next role

You will assist both Head of Planning, external investors and the Council in developing key projects through the strategic planning and transport system.

You will lead a team of planning officers dealing with planning applications in line with Planning Policy/Legislation, Council priorities and financial targets.

With your proven ability of management within a Local Authority environment you will work in a collaborative manner with elected Members, the Council’s Corporate Board, other directorates, external and internal stakeholders, community members and other bodies that interact with this role.

With a relevant professional qualification, you will have a strong background in dealing with major Planning Applications and hold relevant technical knowledge with a proven track record of effective people supervision and project management, including supporting the empowerment of others to take ownership and accountability of outcomes. 

Being IT competent and proficient with digital processes, you will seek to improve digitisation across the teams and combine this with the ability to analyse data and intelligence to drive improvements.

With a relevant professional qualification, you will have a strong background in Development Management with an understanding of the development industry and the importance of sound planning policy. 

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
