Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead Development Management Officer for major and strategic planning applications, including providing pre-application advice and input on master plans.
- Work collaboratively with partners to ensure infrastructure provision aligns with corporate priorities.
- Interpret legislation, government and council guidance, and policy related to statutory responsibilities in development control.
- Offer advice to developers and the public on the preparation of development proposals, ensuring compliance with council policies.
- Prepare and present evidence for planning appeals and represent the council as an expert planning witness at hearings and public inquiries.
- Guide other council departments and statutory bodies on planning matters, providing both written and oral advice.
- Assess and process planning applications and consultations, conduct site inspections, and negotiate S106 agreements.
- Support major enforcement activities, prepare enforcement reports and handle subsequent appeals.
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in development management within a governmental or similar setting.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, council policies, and guidance related to development control.
- Proven ability to handle major strategic planning applications and provide expert witness services in formal inquiries.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with developers, the public, and council members.
- Capability to provide robust advice and practical solutions in planning and development matters.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and report-writing skills.
