Job Description

Principal Planner Transport Programmes

Do you have significant experience of managing transport projects and programmes and are looking for your next career development opportunity? Can you lead and develop programmes to transform transport in Sheffield and help to deliver sustainable, clean growth? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We’re looking for an experienced professional that will bring their passion and knowledge of sustainable transport to support the development and delivery of our transport programme. In the role you will support a team of Transport Planners who undertake the client and project management responsibility on a wide range of both strategic and local transport projects.

You will ensure that schemes and programmes are developed and delivered to meet the outcomes of the Sheffield Transport Strategy and play a crucial role in maximising the opportunities and benefits of the schemes we deliver for the people of Sheffield.

With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to build strong relationships and have experience of preparing business cases, securing funding or investment, and possess robust financial management skills. If you join us, you will enjoy a supportive, flexible work environment, have a chance to be part of a dedicated team and be part of our fantastic, friendly, outdoor city.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Interview date: week commencing 29 January 2024.
