Our Planning Service is at the heart of shaping Wiltshire's growth and development. We ensure every decision we make promotes high-quality place-shaping, guided by robust policies and best practices in urban design. As a statutory and regulatory service, we play a pivotal role in delivering housing and employment aligned with our Local Plan.

We’re embarking on an exciting transformation journey, and we want passionate professionals to join us. Last year, we initiated an ambitious transformation program, backed by a £1 million investment in additional staffing to elevate our services. This is your chance to be part of something big.

Our Strategic Planning Service crafts the policy framework that guides planning applications and ensures that Wiltshire’s Local Plan meets our infrastructure, housing, and community needs. We develop and oversee comprehensive local plans and specialised minerals and waste plans, fulfilling our responsibilities at all levels.

As a Principal Planning Officer in Strategic Planning, you will play a leading role in shaping these policies. You’ll coordinate and deliver up-to-date planning frameworks for Wiltshire, keeping our policies relevant and effective.

We’re looking for candidates who can lead teams to deliver complex projects involved with reviewing the Local Plan or preparing our Minerals and Waste plans. Your creativity and project management skills will be key, as will engaging communities and stakeholders, to support appropriate and sustainable development in Wiltshire. Plus, you’ll mentor and guide team members helping them grow and succeed.
