Job description
The City of the Future - Exciting Opportunity to Join a Dynamic Planning Team.
The City of London is the historic and commercial core of the capital and a world leading financial centre.
Planning in the City reconciles growth with stewardship of a unique historic environment to create world-class, sustainable places, requiring a holistic approach to design and conservation. The City prides itself on providing certainty in fast-changing times and is seeing a strong pipeline of fascinating and high-profile development. As such, there are unrivalled opportunities to be at the cutting edge of urban design and sustainable change to historic buildings and places. It is our aspiration to make the City a greener, climate resilient, attractive, and inclusive place for all. If this aligns with you, then we would like to hear from you.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in urban design and/or historic building conservation.
This is a key management post within the City’s Design and Heritage team. You would lead on securing fantastic urban design and conservation outcomes and be the design lead on major applications within the City, ranging from substantive refurbishments in sensitive settings, complex listed building cases and major proposals for new towers with London-wide implications. As well as this, you would manage three Planning Officer (Design) colleagues and further develop our service provision through input into the emerging City Plan 2040, enhanced use of digital modelling and the Enhanced Historic Environment Service.
We are looking for built environment professionals who are passionate and innovative in their approach to delivering high quality design, are conversant with the historic environment and have an ability to think holistically, embracing heritage, landscape, biodiversity, public realm and the wider sustainability agenda. With a flair for detail, you would also be able to see the bigger picture, being creative in finding solutions and agile in leading negotiations and delivering results.
If you have any questions, please call, in confidence, Tom Nancollas (07842 601186).
The closing date for applications is 12 Noon on 12 April 2024.
Interviews will be scheduled in mid-late April.
