Principal Planning Officer (Policy)

This is a rare opportunity for someone with significant post qualification experience to play a vital role in the Council’s planning policy team at an exciting time for the planning service. We are looking to refocus and reshape the direction of the local plan, including embracing the opportunities that digital planning presents. We are therefore specifically looking for someone who can bring a broad range of experience, ambition and passion to the role, alongside the ability to develop new and innovative approaches to policy-making.

Tonbridge and Malling has recently completed a Regulation 18 consultation on its new local plan and is currently taking forward key pieces of evidence to support policy-development. The post-holder will play a leading role in the development of strategic policies and the spatial strategy of the local plan as well as being the client lead for a range of evidence base studies. You will also be expected to support and deputise for the Planning Policy Manager.

You should possess enthusiasm, be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills.

You should possess a relevant degree and/or should have completed post-graduation studies for qualification for membership of the RTPI (or a suitable equivalent level of education). You will have have a sound experience of working within busy work environments and be keen to learn and able to adapt to changing demands and situations. A full driving licence is essential.

You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the plan making process and ideally have experience of working in a planning policy environment.
