Principal Systems Engineer

Hitachi Information Control Systems Europe Limited (HICSE) is a UK-based provider of system solutions for railway signalling and operations, including Training Simulators, Modelling Tools and ARS+ compliant Route Setting Systems, System Integrator for Traffic Management Systems for the UK and Worldwide markets, working closely with Hitachi Rail Ltd.

This will be based out of either office is located in Bradford on Avon or Derby with a mixture of Hybrid working.

Aim

The aim of this role is to be a technical and project lead including technical ownership for product development and system engineering activities including utilising Systems Engineering principles, design, implementation and delivery of high-quality system solutions and research projects within the Engineering Department.

The role will support the Product and Systems Engineering Manager on the system view of HICSE products to manage road maps.

Role

Reporting to the Product and Systems Engineering Manager and Project Managers of assigned tasks, tasks shall include but not be limited to:

  • Performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems. Analysis will be required at all levels of the total system product to include: concept, design, build, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Running a range of System Engineering meetings.
  • Leading the delivery of tasks from the System Engineering meetings to a high standard of quality
  • Providing on-going system support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Defining and improving system engineering practices within HICSE.
  • Undertaking the role of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) where technical assessment has determined the post holder ‘competent’ in line with the ‘Engineering Management for Projects’
  • Proactively working in a way that meets the System Engineering competencies defined within ‘Engineering Management for Projects’
  • Reviewing and sign-off of system technical documents.
  • Line management responsibility as required.

Tasks:

  • Running, leading and carefully documenting System Engineering meetings.
  • Adherence to the HICSE Business Management System.
  • Delivery of system engineering tasks to agreed timescales and a high quality, including requirements analysis, requirements specification, high-level system architecture design.
  • Documenting processes and tool use for system engineering.
  • Driving improvements into existing processes.
  • Influencing CCB in controlling change to systems.
  • Degree in System Engineering desirable.
