Job description

Job Description:
The opportunity:
At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Principal Technical Support Engineer to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. The CS3 line of business operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.
This role will be part of the Typhoon support team: delivering and maintaining in-service capabilities for the Defensive Aids Sub-System across the globe. You will have the opportunity to work across the full range of in-service technical elements including software, hardware, test solutions, processes and upgrades; applying problem solving, collaboration and continuous improvement skills to create optimal solutions.
In this role you will work closely with the internal Leonardo teams and with external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners and customers, with the ability to influence front-line availability of critical equipment.
What you'll do as a Principal Technical Support Engineer:
  • Support the technical delivery and management of in-service support for the Typhoon Defensive Aids Sub-System across multiple customers and partners in the UK, Europe and Middle East
  • Provide Technical Support to the extended Leonardo engineering team and our partners, and respond to technical queries from the customers
  • Take ownership of the maintenance, upgrade, calibration, consumables and supporting documentation for main equipment and test equipment and associated software
  • Ensure robust quality, availability, cost and time trade-offs are undertaken to optimise the service provided from both a business and customer perspective
  • Track and report on progress to internal stakeholders. Support the Project Engineering Management team to ensure customer Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded
  • Ensure application of appropriate engineering tools / techniques, including ensuring that relevant mandatory training is completed and processes followed. Where suitable, make recommendations for adoption of best practice or tailoring.
  • Escalate emerging issues and levels of risk and help define opportunities and risk mitigation options
  • Coordinate multi-stakeholder input into reports, presentations and reviews for delivery to internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Foster relationships and networks within and outside CS3 and actively identify and champion opportunities for continuous improvement and capability enhancement
  • Develop, coach or mentor other engineers to help grow the skills and knowledge within the team
We would like to hear from you if you have a combination of the following:
  • Experience of working in a service-oriented team that supports the needs of customers
  • A technical background in integrating, troubleshooting and/or supporting hardware, embedded software or test solutions related to complex electronic systems
  • Experience and understanding of the engineering lifecycle, and how the support phase of the lifecycle is managed
  • Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a wide range of organisations, disciplines, backgrounds and levels of seniority
  • Ability to balance competing needs and ascertain when to prioritise and escalate issues in order to meet critical delivery timescales
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with an ability to influence and adapt according to changing demands
  • Ability to elicit technical and commercial stakeholder needs and find mutually beneficial, and potentially innovative, ways of fulfilling them
  • Ability to maintain engineering best practice, including looking externally to sources such as academia or other industries
  • Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion
  • Appreciation of how a system fits within the broader enterprise, for example as a component of a system-of-systems solution and wider dependencies such as personnel and infrastructure
  • Proven experience and understanding of the Typhoon Defensive Aids Sub-System or similar systems would be beneficial
