Your role as a Process Commissioning Engineer Apprentice:

As an Apprentice Water Process Commissioning Engineer, your primary role is to oversee the successful commissioning and start-up of water treatment projects. You will execute comprehensive commissioning plans, ensuring adherence to design specifications and conducting system tests. Collaborating with design teams, you'll identify optimisation opportunities, adjust parameters, and evaluate performance data to enhance system efficiency. Your responsibilities also include equipment calibration and testing, documentation maintenance, and generating detailed commissioning reports for internal and client review. Effective collaboration and communication with project stakeholders, coupled with providing training to operations personnel, are crucial aspects of the role. Your commitment to health and safety compliance, including risk assessments and safety protocol adherence, will contribute to the secure and efficient implementation of water treatment systems. This role requires a meticulous and adaptable professional dedicated to optimising processes and ensuring the seamless transition from commissioning to routine operations.

Your journey: As a Process Commissioning Engineer Apprentice, you'll train as a wastewater process technician specialising in recycling processes as part of our commissioning team, helping deliver our programme of capital investment. The commissioning team work as part of a larger team of partner contractors where we test, optimise and run new treatment plants and systems for the first time to prove reliability and performance prior to hand over to the end user. During your apprenticeship you'll spend five years training and learning. This will be through a mixture of classroom study and on-the-job training as you work towards a level 4 qualification. Your first two years will be spent in an Anglian Water Operational team where you will learn about the operation and optimisation of wastewater and sludge treatment assets working towards a licence to operate. At regular intervals you will spend time on @One construction sites, getting to know your new commissioning team. In years three and four you will undertake a two-year Asset Management apprenticeship programme to round out your understanding of treatment assets, investment and capital delivery. In year 5 you will spend time on @One sites acquiring the remaining practical skills, under the direction of an experienced Commissioning Engineer, mentor and manager to ensure your success as a process Commissioning Engineer.

To be successful as an Anglian Water Apprentice you will require:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade A*- C (9-4 or equivalent) in English, Maths and a mixture of three scientific or technical subjects (achieved or expected)

  • An enthusiastic nature, a willingness to learn & team spirit

  • A passion for practical work, problem solving and technical thinking

  • A passion for science and the environment

As well as the above, you will need a full UK driving licence. If you do not currently have this, you are required to hold a full UK driving licence prior to the completion of year 4 of the training programme. You will also need to live within the circumference of the area that the role will cover.

This position is deemed a safety critical role with safety being our number one priority. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening will be taken.

Closing date: Sunday 24th March 2024

You will then be asked to complete an online behavioural assessment for us to learn more about your values and behaviours, and technical checking assessment for us to find out about your ability to quickly and accurately interpret and process visual information. If successful, you will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre on Tuesday 30th April 2024.
