Rebecca Lamb-Pritchard Head of Marketing at This Is Distorted said, “In the last 10 years the digital advancements in audio have made it much easier and accessible for anyone to start creating music and shows. But, it has also led to the closure and streamlining of many regional radio stations, making it even more difficult for people starting out in music and audio to access industry level coaching and mentoring. We are proud to be partnering with Youth Music UK to ensure young people in Yorkshire are given the opportunities to nurture their talent and work in the music and audio industries”.

Matt Griffiths, Youth Music CEO says: “It’s crucial we enable more young people to make, learn and earn in music, whatever their background or goal. That’s why we’re excited to invest in innovative organisations like This is Distorted, who are leading the way with their dedication to diversifying music. It’s really inspiring to see their Sonic Youth initiative removing barriers into the music industries for young people in Yorkshire, and hope it prompts others to take proactive steps that will equalise the sector.”Applicants have until midnight on January 19th 2024 to apply and need to be aged 18-25 and live in Yorkshire from the date the scheme commences, they don’t need to have qualifications or previous work experience, they do need to be able to demonstrate passion for electronic music and the audio industry and a raw skillset.
