Arrive as you are. Achieve the exceptional.

Our Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprenticeship programme is aimed at those with a passion for learning and innovation.

We’re reimagining the future of automotive, refining the quality of our combustion engines and expanding into electrification. As an Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will become a multi-disciplinary engineer, developing digital technology solutions for modern luxury vehicles that are renowned for their desirability and performance.

Product Design & Development pathway

As an apprentice in the Product Design & Development pathway, you will be responsible for the delivery of everything the customer sees and touches in a vehicle. Our teams create and develop engineering solutions from the virtual to the physical environment, to deliver world class products, processes and facilities. Our goal is to create high-quality, desirable and technologically advanced products that will shape the future of mobility. You will be working on features and products available to customers in the next 10 years right through to current vehicles.

You could be based within any of the following Product Engineering functional areas: Engineering Body Chassis (EBC), Engineering Vehicle (EV), Engineering Powertrain (EP), Engineering Operations (EO). You could also be based within Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) within our Vehicle Programmes department. You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.

Engineering Body Chassis (EBC) - Gaydon

EBC is responsible for most of what you see and touch in our cars. We work closely with our design studios to translate award-winning concepts into engineering reality, factoring in performance, manufacturability, sustainability, cost and weight. Our remit spans lids, doors, structures, cabin and safety, cockpit, climate, seats, exteriors, lighting, glazing and roofs.

You will be part of a team that is responsible for developing real-world engineering solutions. You will learn tools, engineering methodologies and techniques to create and optimise engineering solutions that will enrich your capability, increase your profile, and accelerate your development as an engineer. This will involve working on new products and enhancing current products from the basic science all the way through to the customers hands.

Engineering Operations (EO) - Gaydon or Whitley

Engineering Operations are at the heart of JLR Engineering. Involved at every stage of the engineering process, they underpin technical innovation and product delivery with programme management, tools and processes and specialist technical services to deliver our world class products. A diverse team, Engineering Operations harness a variety of skill sets, from project management, information management and data analytics, to building and testing prototypes.

You could find yourself working within our Digital Engineering, Operations or Test Operations Team. Dependant on the role you find yourself working in, you could develop skills such as learning to design parts for individual component testing, to full vehicle validation, Computer Aided Design (CAD) / Visualisation software skills, using Catia V6 for assembly design, process improvement and method development and problem solving.

Engineering Propulsion (EP) - Gaydon or Whitley

Our Propulsion Engineering team are leaders in the design, test, validation and certification of world-class propulsion systems aimed at delivering driving experiences that our customers will love for life. The scope of our propulsion systems is far-reaching and includes major commodity groups such as electric drive units, energy storage devices, engines, transmissions and drivelines, complemented by software system integration, calibration and control strategies.

You will work on the battery technology, electric drive units, charging and power electronics that underpin the next generation of electrified powertrains. Typical activities could include completing competitor benchmarking and strategy work for future programmes, creating computer models to analyse and optimise physical components or systems delivering new components, developing new software algorithms and control strategies to monitor and control engineering systems, completing product testing and validation and helping to improve current product quality through continuous improvement.

Engineering Vehicle (EV) -Gaydon

In particular, EV drives the creation and control of vehicle architectures, conducts diverse technical projects and concept studies, and champions end-to-end vehicle efficiency improvements, whilst integrating systems to ensure the seamless delivery of futureproofed cars.

Within EV you could find yourself working in a number of different technical areas such as: Vehicle Architecture, Vehicle Efficiency, Human Factors, Vehicle Integration, Vehicle Evaluation Team, Durability & Robustness, Noise Vibration & Harshness or Vehicle Dynamics.

Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) - Fen End

Our SVO division offers a stimulating environment for innovative minds, an environment where creating world-class Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles with amplified key characteristics around performance, luxury and capability is key to creating a feeling like no other.

You will be working in our Bespoke team, where you will truly make dreams come true, adding value to our already spectacular Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. Through armoured and commercial derivatives to extensive personalisation, including special paint effects and limited-edition production runs, you will create solutions that are truly bespoke. Striving to be the pinnacle of Modern Luxury for JLR, you will offer our most discerning of customers the opportunity to customise their car inside and out to provide the ultimate outlet to express themselves.

These modules are taught in blocks throughout the academic year by Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), a key part of the University of Warwick. You will benefit from a mix of lectures, practical laboratory assignments, seminars and tutorials delivered in person and online, and enjoy access to a virtual learning environment for further support.

In your final year, you will undertake a work-based project that also forms part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). On successful completion of your EPA, you will achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career with JLR.
