Product Design Engineer
Based at Altham, Lancashire

We have an opportunity for an experienced Product Design Engineer to join our design team responsible for developing new products from concept through to completion researching and developing new ideas for products and the systems used to create them. The role will also focus on analysing existing products with a view to improving their efficiency and overall performance whilst providing excellent technical support when needed.
The Role:
- Introduce design and production concepts working on innovative products and collaborative projects generating production and technical engineering drawings using CAD.
- Design, model, source and test prototypes identifying and selecting materials needed for production and turning research ideas into technical plans for prototypes using computer-aided design (CAD).
- Manage the product development process for those projects where the Design Engineer is project champion, providing technical support to other departments where required.
- Ensure that new Product Designs and any cost reduction designs strive to achieve the target cost price, required launch date and meet all necessary legislative criteria.
- Be hands-on in supporting a product through to a production stage, such as training assembly operatives.
- Be comfortable presenting information and speaking to suppliers/ internal customers where necessary.
- Compile a complete technical information package for each product in the form of detailed assembly drawings for use in the manufacturing process.
- Ensure that design and creative projects are delivered on time and to budget ensuring commercial success.
- Carry out modifications / amendments to various technical information as required.
- Collecting data from tests on new products to change designs as needed
- Liaising with all internal and external suppliers.
- Prepare test and operational procedures, and quality management documentation.
- Keep accounts of all technical documentation including: Reports, Calculations, Specifications, Parts lists and Assembly guides.
The Person:
- Demonstrable Design Engineering experience ideally within the furniture sector.
- Proficient in SolidWorks with understanding of PhotoView, Adobe Suite & Microsoft Office.
- Self-motivated with a passion for detail and innovation.
- Ability to think laterally and problem solve.
- Experience of designing for and testing to relevant standards.
- Experience of prototyping and 3D printing.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills as preparation of detailed technical drawings are essential to the role.
- (HNC / HND or a degree) in Design Engineering or similar discipline.
