About the Role
Reporting to the Head of New Product Development, the Product Engineer will have overall responsibility for the customer-centric design & development of cutting-edge solutions and their market readiness.
Main Responsibilities
- Design input from new system concepts, concept testing, through design development, and into finished product detailing.
- Responsible for realising the finished system from concept designs/ideas.
- Create and ensure accuracy of manufacturing drawings.
- Maintain manufacturing drawing management, and ensure latest editions are circulated to appropriate internal/external contacts.
- Provide input into creation of datasheets, installation documents and other marketing materials.
- Support the marketing group in updating and maintaining existing solution drawings and details.
- Be commercially aware during all aspects of product development. System components should be repeatable many thousands of times, be sensitive to costs (tooling and component)
- Form great working relationships with internal/external teams to ensure optimum project delivery
- Work closely with the broader Marketing and Sales teams to ensure strong launch plans including clear value argumentation and support tools/information to help ensure effective promotion and market penetration
- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the value and application of our product/solution portfolio.
- Support the Product Management team as required in managing existing product and the transition to new products.
- Adhere to all aspects of the company EHS policies and conduct all activities in a way that is commensurate with our company values
About you
To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess demonstrable experience gained in Product/Design Engineering, with an emphasis on 3D design and a good understand of materials selection and performance. Ideally you will possess experience gained in a customer focussed environment coupled with strong NPD skills.
Key selection criteria
- Educated to HNC level (minimum) in an appropriate/related discipline (HND and above preferred but not essential)
- Proven experience of prototyping and development through to product detailing.
- Proven work experience with CAD software and Product design including 3D CAD, Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD etc.
- Portfolio of work
- Experience of working in a team with deadlines
- Experience liaising and working seamlessly with manufacturing and Product Design
- Excellent creative design, with an engineering understanding
- Practical understanding of how materials perform (candidates with materials testing experience would be favourably received)
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills
- Good range of IT skills
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and on multiple projects at once
- Keen attention to detail
- Self-motivated with a hands-on approach
