JOB DESCRIPTION
Role: Product Legislation Manager - UK & EU
Location: Head Office, Leicester
Working in our Legal & Compliance team the main function of this role is to review various pieces of UK and EU legislation relating to the products that Next sells in the UK and EU. This involves staying up to date with the legislation following decisions made by courts and regulators and advising the business on an ongoing basis as to how to comply with these rules. As well as day to day advice, the person in this role is expected to provide regular business updates and advice notes on any changes in Product Legislation.
This role will cover all UK and EU Product Legislation including existing and upcoming safety, performance, environmental and ethical legislation for products
This role will be responsible for ongoing horizon scanning to keep the business informed of any upcoming changes to Product Legislation in good time to allow the business to prepare for those changes. This could include legislation that impacts on products or the environmental impact from the sale of products.
Key Skills
- A background in either Product Legislation, Quality Assurance or Quality Control
- Demonstrable experience of interpreting Product Legislation:
- Product legislation subject matter expert: Whilst support will be available from the wider legal team, this role is expected to be the subject matter expert on Product Legislation
- An ability to explain complex rules in concise and clear language
- Ability to provide clear guidance even in the absence of established precedence on legislation
- Time management: Ability to work efficiently and effectively, often dealing with large legislative documents but knowing where to focus attention
- Prioritising & Risk Assessment: identify priorities for the business and assess the level of risk involved.
- Commercial acumen: This role requires the person to understand our business and our business priorities so that the advice being given is both practical and in line with the business risk appetite.
- Teamwork: Whilst this role will sit within legal & compliance, it is a role that is integral to the business and requires excellent teamwork with the rest of the business.
- Presence and Influence: This role requires someone who is visible and influential within the business, easily approachable and accessible as the role will also support the legal team in their commercial and compliance roles. This role requires the person to be in the office at least 3 times a week
