Job description

Well known and respected Health and Wellness company are looking for a Product Safety Specialist to join their Head office team. Either based in West Midlands or in London - you will be a vital member of the regulatory affairs team, responsible for ensuring the safety of the product portfolio. Reporting directly to the Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting NPD projects by leading the safety assessment of all new products and conducting due diligence checks on existing products. Your scientific expertise and leadership will contribute to the successful launch of safe products to their customers.

Duties include:

- Preparation of safety assessments to support global product development from innovation through to launch alongside development of Product Safety capability.

- Support with specification sign off for products aimed at vulnerable populations e.g. pregnancy, children, elderly.

- Complete CPSR for cosmetic NPD projects.

- Support with botanical ingredient reviews as requested by Science or NPD functions, highlighting any potential risks or limitations relating to the ingredient.

- Handle adverse reaction complaint escalations and provide professional toxicological review on the matter.

- Provide support and expertise for safety-related product claims on products across all marketing channels.

- Assessment of potential for adverse events in a population.

- Final safety assessment and for ensuring that products on the markets are safe though their lifecycle.

- Stay abreast of news and potential evolving changes in the market which could have an impact on our product portfolio’s safety.

- Manage external suppliers, where relevant, to ensure external safety reports are provided in a timely manner and are of high standard.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Toxicology. An advanced degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years' experience of safety assessment in FMCG industry,
  • A demonstrable level of previous experience in a Product Safety management role within the food and/or retail sectors.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment and working as part of a cross functional team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders and external authorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of botanical ingredients.
  • Professional qualifications - DABT (Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT), UKRT (UK register of Toxicologists) are a plus.
