Job description

The RCM is a world leading music conservatoire with a prestigious history and contemporary outlook. Our excellence was recognised as we were ranked the global top institution for performing arts in the 2022 & 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

This post is based in the Britten Theatre. Our Britten Theatre is one of London's best-loved opera stages - with an orchestra pit and elegant tiered auditorium, it not only hosts our regular opera productions but also a variety of instrumental and ensemble performances. With excellent technical facilities, the theatre is in regular use as the focus of the thriving RCM Opera Studio and mounts 3 full staged operas annually. It also hosts a variety of instrumental performances, including a chamber music series and concerts by the RCM Big Band.

Acclaimed directors, designers and choreographers join us, providing a professional experience within a supportive environment. We also present other special projects including biennial fully staged productions of mini-operas written by RCM student composers.

The RCM is seeking to engage a skilled and energetic Production and Venue Electrician to join its small and dynamic team. We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:

  • You should hold a relevant degree level qualification and have professional experience in production, touring or venue-based roles.
  • You will be expected to maintain high professional standards as you will be supporting the training of students of exceptionally high level of technical and musical proficiency, students at undergraduate, postgraduate and, in some cases, doctoral level.
  • You will be a committed professional keen to help the team to continue to flourish and grow.
  • You should understand the particular demands of the music profession and particularly Opera Production.

This post is offered on a permanent, full-time basis and is immediately available.

Salary: £29,578-£32,378 p.a. Normally appointed to 1st point of the grade.
