Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (subject to experience)

At NP Aerospace, the Production Supervisor serves as a cornerstone, providing decisive leadership and guidance to our Team Leaders and Cell Leads.

In this key position, you will be responsibility for ensuring the successful execution of our monthly sales forecast. This entails overseeing the production process to ensure that both established products and ongoing development projects are delivered with precision: on budget, on schedule, and meeting our rigorous quality standards.

With a primary focus on the production of our world-renowned combat helmets, you will lead efforts to maintain excellence in manufacturing, driving efficiency, and upholding the highest levels of quality assurance.

JOB DUTIES

  • Deliver the monthly sales forecast, ensuring that adequate and appropriate resources are in place to meet the production schedule and avoid overtime.
  • Daily, through KPIs at the daily shop floor whiteboard meetings and other reporting mechanisms, continuously promote and drive excellence in outputs, ensuring products and development activities are delivered on time, cost, performance, and to the right levels of quality throughout the 3-shift 7 days per week production team.
  • Lead the manufacturing teams through personal example and professional competence, setting and maintaining the highest standards using the appropriate professional and company tools to promote excellent cross functional performance.
  • Manage and interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimum performance, mitigate risks, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Be responsible for plant and equipment availability, performance, and utilisation, championing process improvements, equipment husbandry, and, via internal stakeholders, routine preventative maintenance, and repairs.
  • Act as a role model for championing our Health & Safety Programme and influencing these behaviours to improve all safety measures.
  • Support customer visits and manufacturing readiness reviews, including facility specification and implementation, process design and work balance, standard ops creation, PFMEA completion, process development, and training.
  • Support cross-functional Kaizen events to support process improvements, single-piece flow, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Apply a lean management approach to manufacturing and introduce, where necessary, lean methodologies and tools to continuously improve efficiency.
  • Improve and champion continued improvement in operator skills within the manufacturing team at both a process and product level.
  • Undertake line management of multiple direct reports and indirect line management of multiple staff working 7 days a week across 3 shifts.
  • Although primarily a day-shift presence is required, a willingness to visit and be seen on site during all shifts at times is essential.

CRITICAL OUTPUTS AND ACHIEVEMENT REQUIRED

  • Meet or exceed sales forecasts on time, on cost and on quality.
  • Maintain year-on-year cost reductions in line with business objectives.
  • Standards set and maintained (5S, Lean Audit, SOPs, MIs, Control Plans)
  • Up-to-date work bookings
  • Labour Recovery: Recovery > 95% of direct costs incurred.
  • Plan and execute monthly Kaizen events with results clearly communicated to the business.
  • Reduce stock in production areas to < 4 stock days.
  • Skills coverage at process and product level > 95%
  • Right First Time > 97%
  • Master Production Schedule achievement > 97%

EXPERIENCE

This candidate will be:

  • An experienced and highly motivated leader.
  • An experienced manufacturing Production Supervisor with relevant experience across a variety of operational environments with experience of multiple manufacturing and assembly processes and facilities.
  • Wholly comfortable with lean concepts and methodologies and can tangibly demonstrate appropriate application in given scenarios. Experience managing production operations that deliver products and development activities to cost, on time, and to the right levels of quality.
  • Fully familiar with the role of a leader and mentor to experienced staff such as team leaders and cell leaders.
  • Able to demonstrate proven experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally medium to high volume production, and ideally in experience in the aerospace, automotive, defence industries, or similar industries.
  • Preferably able to demonstrate experience in press moulding and CNC machining.
  • Fluent in the use of practical problem-solving methodologies (5 whys, ishikawa, 8D, etc.)
  • Able to communicate effectively, in writing, verbally, and via standard IT applications, and actively drive high levels of contribution and accountability amongst the team.
  • Be fully conversant with all forms of IT and the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, with intermediate-level Excel knowledge.
