Job description

Production Technician

Our client is developing and scaling processes to manufacture advanced natural materials to replace plastic. The company’s technology builds on over a decade of research into sustainable material technology, yielding applications ranging from packaging to fashion, textiles, and food.

Our client has assembled a world-leading implementation team to commercialise its technology. The company operates out of our labs on Cambridge Science Park and has recently established an engineering pilot facility in Cambridgeshire.

With the opening of our new Pilot Facility, we are looking for Production Technicians to provide technical support in setting up, running, and maintaining our production line, where our client is pioneering the next generation of sustainable materials to replace plastic.

Tasks

This is a position for a highly motivated individuals with the ability to run batch production modules (typically manually operated). The ideal candidate will embrace change with a positive mindset and be committed to contributing to the continuous improvement of our production processes. Example tasks include:

  • Setting up and preparing equipment and machinery for production runs, and operating basic machinery
  • Preparing batches of material for processing by following standard operating procedures
  • Handling the product at various stages of its cycle with a high degree of control and care
  • Preparing finished product for storage and shipping, and creating inventories
  • Cleaning down equipment, machinery, and work areas. Ensuring production areas are maintained in accordance with 'good housekeeping' practise and standard operating procedures.
  • Assisting with Goods In where required, counting parts, checking counts back to delivery notes and placing stock in its designated location.
  • Appropriately dispose of production waste in designated bins/areas
  • Reporting inventory, breakdowns issues and any production problems to line manager
  • Comply with health and safety standards to maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Enthusiasm, energy, and ability to handle high levels of workload which includes repetitive but interesting work.
  • Possess a 'can do’ attitude. Process development involves trial and error - the candidate must understand this and maintain a highly positive attitude throughout
  • Mindset open to an experimental approach and trying new methods with guidance from project managers. Willingness to adapt/learn new processes on the existing line.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic mechanical empathy.
  • Experience in a practical environment is required. Start-up or pilot facility experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Strong communication skills - ability to convey information clearly and accurately to line manager and other team members.
  • Some computer literacy required - basics in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, working hard to meet strict production targets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Comfortable with a physical role, with previous experience in a manual handling role
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work alone.
  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and excellent time management skills
  • Access to own vehicle is an advantage.

Working hours are Monday to Friday 9:30 am - 5:30 pm. 30 min lunch breaks unpaid. Canteen on site and free parking
