Background
The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of the world’s most distinguished scientists. Our fundamental purpose, reflected in our founding charters of the 1660s, is to recognise, promote and support excellence in science and to encourage its development and use for the benefit of humanity. We are the world’s oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.
Providing scientific advice to shape policy and the wider public debate is one of the Society’s strategic priorities. Our work in the Science Policy directorate focuses on global challenges such as pandemic responses, climate change, and energy, food, and water security. We make the case for strengthening investment in research and innovation and developing STEM education, and we set out the potential for emerging areas of science and technology such as data science and AI and genetic technologies.
Role
The Royal Society is looking for a Programme Coordinator for the Research and Innovation (R&I) team in Science Policy. This is a new role which is intended to broaden our administrative capabilities in the context of an expanding team. It is suitable for an efficient and versatile person who enjoys project and events management, forms excellent working relationships across the board, and has experience of organising people and systems including forecasting and budgeting.
The R&I team is responsible for producing analysis and advice on the political and policy environment impacting science. Our work covers a wide range of topics including research and innovation funding, international collaboration, skills, research culture, visas and immigration, emerging technologies, and pandemic preparedness. The team is also responsible for the Science 2040 programme with a series of events, publications and other activities planned over a five-year period.
We are seeking a candidate who shares our passion for science and its wider benefits for people in the UK and globally.
