Job description

About us

The Early Education and Childcare Coalition unites the voices of parents, children, early educators and the wider business community on one of the most important building blocks of a fair society: early education and childcare.

The Coalition was co-founded by more than 30 organisations including providers, parent campaign groups, child advocates, trade unions that represent the early years workforce and business lobbying groups. We formally launched in September 2023 with a programme of influencing and research work designed to keep early education and childcare firmly on the political agenda ahead of the next general election, looking to secure commitment to long-term reform and sustainable investment.

The Coalition is backed by some of the most high-profile campaign and research organisations in the UK. You can find out more about our members and our collective aims on our website.

About the role

Our ultimate aim is to see wholesale reform of the early education and childcare system in England. To achieve that long-term aim we need to continue to develop funding streams that can ensure the sustainability and future of the Coalition. The Development Manager will work closely with our existing core funders and play a key role in shaping the structure of this ambitious and exciting organisation.

We work flexibly and remotely, but do expect that most hours are worked during standard office hours. The Coalition is currently hosted by the Women’s Budget Group (WBG). Any contract of employment will be with WBG.

  • Working pattern: 4 days per week (30 hours per week)
  • Pay: £46,200 FTE (£36,960, 4 days) - a cost of living pay increase is expected in April 2024
  • Location: Home-based but near or within London
  • Contract term: 12 months, subject to renewal
  • Closing date: Sunday 11th February
  • Interviews: w/c 19th February
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Line management: Reports to the Director

Job description

The successful candidate will lead the work to develop and diversify the Coalition’s income. Our existing core funders are philanthropists with experience of funding coalitions and education programmes globally, and they play an active role in the development of coalition. It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with them and the Director.

The Coalition is currently hosted by the Women’s Budget Group. Over the course of the next year, the Coalition will move towards becoming a separate legal entity. It is expected that the Development Manager will play a key role in coordinating that process.

●      Responsible for meeting reporting requirements and maintaining records of funding activity

●      Coordinate the process to formally constitute the Coalition as a separate entity working closely with the Steering Group, host organisation WBG, and the Director.

●      Implement internal processes to support the development of the Coalition

To apply

The EECC is committed to diversity and inclusion. We use positive action under section 159 of the Equality Act in relation to disability or race. This means that if we have two candidates of equal merit in our process, we will seek to take forward the disabled or Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic candidate in order to diversify our staff team.

We regret that due to the high number of applications we receive, our small team does not have the capacity to provide individual feedback to applicants.
