Project Archivist (12 Month Contract)

Our client’s archive encompasses a wide range of materials, charting the development of the profession from the nineteenth century onwards. It includes records, papers of professionals and companies, original artworks, technical drawings and models.
It also supports our client’s strategy to maximise their impact by showcasing their heritage to professionals and researchers globally, and plays a crucial role in preserving the organisation’s corporate memory.
Our client is now looking for a Project Archivist to join them on a full-time basis for a 12-month fixed term contract. There is also the option for a part-time role, working at least three days per week.
The Role
As a Project Archivist, you will assist the Archivist to catalogue collections, arrange digitisation where appropriate and prepare items for future relocation.
Undertaking the full range of collection management activities, you will be responsible for the box listing, appraisal, arrangement, cataloguing and packaging of the backlog of uncatalogued archive collections, with a particular focus on cataloguing our client’s records collection.
You will select and prepare appropriate items for digitisation, using the Epexio database to catalogue and complete collection-level descriptions to ISAD(G).
About You
To be considered as a Project Archivist, you will need:
- Experience of working in an archive, cataloguing to ISAD(G)
- Proven experience of working with archive collections management software such as Epexio
- An understanding and experience of the appraisal and arrangement of large archive collections
- Experience of handling and packaging archive materials and the knowledge of how to identify material, which requires professional intervention
- Experience of selecting, preparing and making arrangements for the digitisation of materials
- Good working knowledge of relevant archival legislation and standards
- Strong organisational skills
- Good communication skills
- A postgraduate archival qualification or equivalent and practical experience working in an archive environment
