The Opportunity
Would you like to be an integral part of our Company creating the low carbon infrastructure needed to future-proof our electricity system, integrate more renewable energy, and provide scalable capacity for electric vehicle charging? A great opportunity has become available for you to work as Project Development Engineer where you’ll be leading the Development Engineering for Utility Scale BESS, PV Solar and Private Wire network projects, by providing technical and engineering input in supporting the Portfolio Management team during all phases of development until each site has reached formal funding (FID).
Location: Remote working with visits to sites and offices. London, Edinburgh or Durham.

You’ll be great at….
Acting as the Owners Engineer during the development of our projects , working with Engineering, Procurement team, Planning and Construction to develop site layouts (with consideration for: equipment dimensions, clearance around equipment for maintenance, distance required between equipment for fire safety, noise implications or close receptors, cable routes, access route, etc.)
- Provide technical project due diligence and resolve/align any technical queries and challenges found during the development phase of the project with relevant stakeholders.
- Manage consultants for preparation of layouts, elevations and technical documents required for planning applications.
- Work closely with engineering team to understand suppliers’ latest technical solutions to assess implications on design, layout, electrical and communication interfaces.
- Review and influence site lease boundaries with the Legal team to dictate technical constraints.
- Prepare information required and review outputs of third-party surveys and reports (e.g. geotechnical, flood risk assessment, noise impact assessment, etc.)
- Coordinate multiple contractors to ensure that contractual obligations are met by both parties.
- Write technical project reports (e.g. optioneering, milestone reports), as required by projects and in line with project governance requirements.
- Be responsible for the setup and maintenance of all project records and other documents, so they are structured and easy to use during Project Development phase.

What do you need to be great at this role?
A Bachelors degree in engineering or similar, with a propensity for advancement in further education.
- We are seeking a self-starter who is capable of working autonomously, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to tasks. While support and training will be provided, it is essential that the candidate possesses a drive to deliver results independently and efficiently.
- Experience of managing contractors and consultants.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in Project Development / Development Engineering (preferably with a construction / civil engineering bias in energy storage or solar experience, however this is flexible.)
- Experience of completing due diligence on site development documentation, reporting on findings and identifying solutions
- Understanding of Photovoltaic Systems (PV), Battery energy Storage Systems (BESS) development considerations is desirable, training will be provided.
- Experience in the preparation of technical specifications and other technical documents.
- You would demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, health, environment and quality. NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) certification is desirable, but not essential, as training can be provided. Willingness to learn quickly on the job with aspirations for development.
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills with ability to read and understand detailed documents (e.g. project plans, survey reports, electrical design and legal contracts) and to write project reports concisely.
- Demonstrate a team-centred approach to work but can also work autonomously and independently, where required. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines and multi-task.
- Self-starter who is highly driven and motivated to see impactful results.
- Comfortable working with numbers and interpreting statistics.
- Delivery focused and resilient.
- Proficiency in design software such as PvSyst, PV Sol, AutoCAD or equivalent (e.g. SLD, Layouts drawings)
