Project Implementation Engineer
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Project Implementation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in implementing, operating, managing, and integrating complex enterprise IT systems and infrastructure. Your responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing IT systems for client deliverables.
- Defining and maintaining technology and integration models, conceptual and logical application and infrastructure patterns, and services.
- Providing expertise and guidance on infrastructure architecture to peers, leadership, and associates within the Software department.
- Offering technical IT expertise and assistance in selecting new hardware and software platforms to align with enterprise architecture principles, policies, and standards.
- Documenting the infrastructure architecture environment and procedures to ensure cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and high quality.
- Assisting in the design and setup of secure remote VPN connections for Fortna clients.
- Supporting Fortna’s provided infrastructure to clients.
- Producing high-quality project, QA, and infrastructure design documentation.
- Taking ownership and following through on individual and department goals as agreed upon with Software Management.
- Remote support and troubleshooting for both new and legacy WCS systems.
- Installing new/rebuilding existing servers, configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Installing and configuring systems supporting WCS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications.
- Researching and recommending innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
- Administering third-party middleware applications used in the WCS solution, such as Glassfish Applications Server and Active Message Queue.
Operations and Support:
- Performing system monitoring, ensuring hardware and server resource integrity, and reviewing system and application logs.
- Conducting regular security monitoring to identify potential intrusions.
- Executing daily backup operations, managing file systems and system data backups, and overseeing media recycling.
- Performing file archival and purging as necessary.
- Managing user accounts (creation, changes, deletions) per request.
- Providing Tier III/other support upon request from various constituencies.
- Investigating and troubleshooting issues, as well as recovering from hardware or software failures.
- Coordinating and communicating with impacted constituencies.
- Collaborating with team members to foster a team atmosphere.
Maintenance:
- Applying OS patches and upgrades regularly.
- Configuring/adding new services as necessary.
- Upgrading and configuring system software that supports WCS infrastructure applications.
- Maintaining operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Performing periodic performance reporting for capacity planning.
- Conducting ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
- Maintaining data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Writing, revising, and verifying process and test procedures.
- Developing detailed test, deployment, and back-out plans.
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent.
- Experience in Linux RHEL/OEL/CentOS administration.
- VMware or other virtualization experience.
- Expertise in network topology and infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Virtual Private Networking.
- Working knowledge of server and workstation infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of high availability protocols and architecture.
- Working knowledge of storage area network and network-attached storage systems.
- Working knowledge of Unix-compliant command line interfaces.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally, approximately 5-10% of the time.
Desired Qualifications:
- Oracle admin experience.
- VMware Certification.
- Experience supporting software configuration management systems.
- Previous experience with JBoss and ActiveMQ.
