The Position
We are currently looking to recruit a Project Manager to join our established construction department in Birmingham. This position will be contributing to our Lower Essex Street scheme in Birmingham, which consists of 628-units comprising of an 8-storey, 12-storey, and 27-storey blocks.
You will be responsible for the following duties:
- Analysing and implementing all RAMS for both direct and sub-contract works and ensuring that Galliard Site Management are overseeing the activities being undertaken.
- Directing Galliard Site Management to deliver the implementation of the Project Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan to include all stakeholder requirements and interfaces. You will also develop and update the plan as the project evolves.
- Guiding Galliard Site Management to deliver site progress meetings and analysing any issues raised during these meetings, with the view of providing solutions.
- Planning and analysing labour levels provided to you by Galliard Site Management and ensuring there is sufficient coverage to deliver the project on time and within budget.
- Ensuring that all of the team understand the risks and opportunities of potential change orders throughout the project and analysing those that are presented to you.
- Leading on promoting and fostering a strong team culture within the project teams and throughout the business, as well as implementing schemes to continuously improve morale on site.
- Evaluating and critiquing actual design and construction progress to allow you to manage the maintenance of the project programme in conjunction with the Contracts Manager and Project Planner.
- Working alongside our in-house quality team to agree quality standards, mentoring Galliard Site Management to ensure they are managing quality control correctly and that our standards are understood and met by our subcontractors. Providing solutions to any issues raised by Galliard Site Management around quality.
- Leading the Galliard Construction anti-bribery, corruption, and drug and alcohol testing policies on site and ensuring they are strictly adhered to by all.
- Managing several Galliard Site Managers, whereby you will be responsible for their career development and progression, as well as any performance management needs including disciplinary action.
- Identifying training needs for individuals on site and working alongside the health and safety needs to arrange training and/or qualification attainment.
- Carrying out Sasets site safety audits and temporary works register reviews on a weekly basis.
- Facilitating external site safety and site temporary works audits on a monthly basis.
The Person
The Project Manager will be able to meet the below criteria:
Essential:
- Previous experience leading and managing large residential projects in the capacity of a Project Manager or similar.
- Proven ability to create and implement the right strategy depending on the circumstances and requirements.
- Proven track record of delivery in a fast-paced construction environment working in the capacity of Project Manager on large scale, high-rise, residential or mixed-use projects ranging from £35 to £100 million plus.
- A strong understanding of modern construction techniques, including:
- Piling
- Reinforced Concrete Structures
- Cladding Systems
- Mechanical and Electrical Services
- Fit-Out Trades
- Preconstruction activities
- SMSTS qualified.
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent (Construction Management / Project Management or similar). We will also consider, and value qualified by experience.
- Experience working for a property developer or main contractor previously.
- Strong people management experience, with a proven track record of managing several direct reports with varying levels of experience.
- Ability to identify training needs for individuals on site.
- First Aider at Work qualified.
Desirable:
- Fire Marshall and Scaffold Inspection qualified.
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualified.
- Attained or working towards MCIOB chartership.
- Previous experience project managing a high-rise mixed-use development from pre-construction and planning through to completion and hand-over.
