About the Client
Hamilton Woods Engineering is working with an SME business who are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join their team in the Derbyshire area. Our client specialises in the rail & automotive industry helping start-ups or OEMS to deliver a high-quality standard of service.
In the role of a Project Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing project delivery and offering expert guidance directly to the client. Your duties will encompass managing both your work and that of fellow team members within the clients team.
Responsibilities of Project Manager:
- Continuously monitoring and analysing the ongoing rail fleet introduction, rail infrastructure, rolling stock, and maintenance, is to understand the project's current status, identify completed tasks, and assess work in progress.
- Able to scrutinise project data and interrogate discrepancies within the existing project to ensure accuracy. Verify the validity of information and identify areas requiring further clarification.
- Develop a real-time benchmarking system to accurately measure project progress against the established plan. Implement tracking mechanisms to assess the completion of key deliverables.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in the project, particularly focusing on key deliverables that have not been achieved or overlap.
- Using rail industry experience to reschedule the project within specified time frames.
- Provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders on project status, highlighting achieved milestones, ongoing activities, and any adjusted timelines.
- Assess the implementation status of scheduled actions by third-party contractors. Verify the completion and alignment of tasks with the project's overall objectives.
- Deliver insightful reports to the end client, presenting a comprehensive overview of project status, challenges, and resolutions. Offer recommendations for optimisation and improvement.
- Adopt an agnostic approach in evaluating rolling stock and maintenance, general transportation, and new product introduction. Maintain impartiality to provide unbiased insights and recommendations.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues hindering project progress. Collaborate with relevant parties to implement effective solutions and mitigate potential risks.
- Implement strategies for continuous improvement based on project analysis. Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce delays, and optimize project outcomes.
What Project Manager Requires:
- Proven experience of project management within 1 or more of the below :-
- Rail infrastructure
- Fleet introduction
- Rolling stock and maintenance
- General Transportation
- Rail engineering
- Automotive
- New Product Introduction
- Good working knowledge of risk, issue, and opportunity management techniques.
- Strong stakeholder and people management skills.
- Strong skills in Excel and other analytical packages are a must.
- Fluent technical report writing.
- Good knowledge of the UK rail industry, transportation, automotive or vehicle sector.
- Confident at presenting ideas and concepts to senior-level audiences.
- Knowledge of Power BI and data analysis is desirable.
Qualifications
- Degree qualification is preferred but a demonstration of relevant equivalent experience over time will also be considered.
- Project management qualifications are desirable but not essential.
