Job description

The Role

This is a hands on senior role within the Projects Management Office team of the Digital Transformation division within the wider Digital (eHealth) department. Digital supports a diverse range of services within the local organisation in addition to external parties and suppliers. You will be in an important position to directly contribute to shape the future of NHSL’s eHealth strategy to benefit end users and patient care.

You will be a team player who is equally comfortable in working alone.

The position should offer challenge, innovation and be highly rewarding to the successful candidate allowing them to contribute to the design and development of solutions to support systems under the remit of the Digital Transformation division and wider Digital Department.

The post holder is responsible for the effective management and control of major projects and to implement and maintain best practice and quality standards in project management within a culture of continuous improvement.

The post holder will be the direct project management lead for the delivery of two or more specific projects at any point in time from business case to full operational status.

This includes the management of discrete and/or linked projects in our portfolio from initiation to full operational status, ensuring achievement of agreed benefits within agreed timescales and budgets set by the business/project sponsor.

The post holder will implement best practice, utilising the PRINCE2 and Agile project management methodology and internal Project Office framework ensuring agreed benefits are delivered within agreed timescales and budgets set by the business/project sponsors.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Sound problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong documentation skills with proven ethos in the importance of documentation.
  • A strong communicator with experience of working collaboratively with colleagues with good interpersonal skills with the ability to enthuse individuals in the adoption software solutions that may be deliverable by the Digital department
  • Ability to solve problems and make logical decisions which fit with NHSL’s values
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence other stakeholders where necessary
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own and others workloads
  • Work independently and collaboratively where required
  • Proven Project Management experience including knowledge of some or all of the following:
  • Agile project methodology
  • PRINCE 2 project methodology
  • Waterfall project methodology
  • Devops project management methodology
  • Proven sound knowledge and experience of M365 for Enterprise for Business environments including M365 enterprise and business licence models is preferred and would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of NHS Scotland Healthcare systems would be advantageous but not essential
  • Must hold a current UK/EEA driving licence and have access to own car for business travel.


It would be great if you also have


  • Project Management qualification e.g. Agile, PRINCE 2 or Managing Successful Projects.
  • Understanding of Data Protection and IT security principles.
  • Ability to manage and understand financial information.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Proven track record of managing projects using project management methodology, e.g. Microsoft Project.
  • Proven sound knowledge and experience of M365 for Enterprise for Business environments including M365 enterprise and business licence models.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the critical leadership behaviours, identified as essential to achieving success within NHS Scotland.
  • Displays enthusiasm and demonstrates expert leadership and knowledge about their work and also about their role as an influencer

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Digital/eHealth - Digital Transformation PMO Team within Kirklands NHSL Headquarters.

The working pattern for this role is 9-5 Mon-Fri. This role is offered on a hybrid working model with 2 days per week in the office.
