Job Title:Propulsion Systems Commissioning EngineerLocation: PortsmouthSalary: £44,604What you'll be doing:
    Perform and lead in the maintenance and operation of power generation and propulsion (P&P) equipment on Royal Navy vessels. Propulsion Equipment includes, but is not limited to; Diesel Engines, Transmissions, Shaft lines, Generators, Gas turbines, and HV systems with a mechanical bias. Responsibilities also cover supporting systems for power and Propulsion Systems such as fuel, freshwater, HP Air, Seawater, and sullageInspection, maintenance, commissioning and defect diagnosis of P&P equipment and their associated systemsApplying knowledge, skill and experience in order to resolve issues and faults associated with the operation and performance of Propulsion SystemsPlanning, coordinating, conducting and presenting designated trials and commissioning activities, to all stakeholdersOperating Safe Systems of Work that comply with the company SHE procedures and processes at all timesBe able to work with technical autonomy and provide advice and guidance to other technical staffProviding mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineersEngaging with customers and authorities in writing, by telephone or face to face to discuss technical issues and problemsProviding information and technical advice to assist in the compilation of estimates, programs and work packages
Your skills and experiences:Essential:
    Level 3 NVQ in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or relevant industry experience.Level 4 HNC in an engineering discipline, or willingness to work towards a Level 4 HNCDemonstrable technical knowledge / broad experience of Diesel Engines and Generators, their maintenance and inspection requirementsExperience with maintenance, inspections, setting to Work, functional testing, fault diagnosis and defect rectification on Power and Propulsion SystemsCommissioning or operating experience on ship systemsExperienced in report writing with strong stakeholder management and people skillsExperience with Microsoft Office applicationsHappy to work in a role where you can be deployed for up to 2 weeks at a time, and up to 6 times per year
Desirable:
    Experience working on engines manufactured by the following OEM's: - "MTU" - "Wärtsilä" - "Caterpillar"Electrical qualifications/experienceFamiliar with complex warshipsWillingness to keep abreast of technological initiatives and updates

The Propulsion Systems Services Team work collaboratively with all areas of BAE Systems Maritime Services to provide ship availability and respond to critical operational defects to get RN vessels back to sea and on operation.As a Propulsion Systems Commissioning Engineer you will deliver to a variety of stakeholders as part of a closely knitted and evolving team.
