WHAT TO EXPECT

 

This is a workshop-based craft role working on Prototype Vehicles with the objective of ensuring fabrication requests are supported. You must have the appropriate skills to manufacture, modify and fabricate vehicle components, structure and tooling to ensure functionality for their intended test use as required.

 

This use covers all whole vehicle development test work in UK & short-term support overseas.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Fabrication and machining of vehicle components and subsystems to support development iterations.
  • Engineering support, design and manufacture of special tooling to support the early development phase of vehicle testing.
  • Design, measurement, manufacture and fitment of vehicle ballast solutions.
  • Milling / turning of parts for various vehicle functions.
  • Modification of whole vehicle bodies to allow fitment of outrigger safety systems.
  • Drilling / tapping / welding of powertrain and brake system components to allow instrumented measurement reading.
  • Provision of this support at your prime site (Gaydon) with occasional support on other UK & overseas sites.

 

You will be required to work the following shift pattern at our Gaydon site : Double Days - typically 6:00 to 2:05 / 1:55 to 10:00 Mon to Thurs, 6:00 to 12:00 / 11:50 to 5:50 Fri.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Level 3 C&G, NVQ or IMI in Fabrication and Welding or similar
  • A recognised apprenticeship preferred.
  • Solid experience working in a fabrication / engineering environment.
  • Excellent milling, turning and sheet metal skills.
  • Ability to Mig and Tig weld to a high standard.
  • Able to read, understand and draw engineering drawings.
  • Experience of whole vehicle systems
  • Working knowledge of JLR “TOPIX”
