Job description

An exceptional opportunity has arisen at our client, an award winning Top 50 City law firm for an interim Public Corporate M&A and ECM Knowledge Lawyer on an initial 3 month FTC basis starting ASAP.

The Role

The role involves working alongside a senior Knowledge Counsel in the Corporate M&A and ECM team, as well as collaborating with a wider group of Knowledge Lawyers both across the Corporate team and firmwide. The work will focus on collation and publication of knowledge resources spanning company law topics, with particular focus on public companies (including ECM, public takeovers, and corporate governance). The role will encompass both internal and client-facing activities such as thought leadership publications, briefings, and tailored training; it represents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to help take the department’s know-how function to new heights.

The successful candidate will be able to draw on assistance from the department’s Senior Knowledge paralegal, and will work closely with the embedded Business Development and Operations teams. The knowledge function is integral to the continued success of the practice; you will help enhance our reputation for being at the forefront of thinking on legal and regulatory developments and market practice affecting public companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ongoing monitoring of developments and horizon-scanning.
  • Supporting the collation of departmental know-how, including capturing know-how from recent transactions.
  • Dealing with queries from fee earners at all levels, from partner to trainee, both within and outside the department.
  • Creating and updating precedents and in response to current market trends, legal/regulatory changes, and feedback from client matters.
  • Organising and/or delivering training programmes, as well as ad hoc training sessions, to a variety of audiences from a small group of trainees to the whole department and other departments as needed.
  • Curating our internal knowledge resources and identifying content appropriate for sharing more widely on a need-to-know basis.
  • Contributing to cross-practice knowledge-sharing initiatives and groups on topics such as ESG and asset management to support collaboration across practices.
  • Building and maintaining the external profile of the department as knowledge leaders in our field, by drafting articles, briefings and commentary for the firms website and social media channels on developments in ECM, public M&A and corporate governance.
  • Briefing partners in advance of CLLS /Law Society Company Law Committee meetings.
  • Collaborating with knowledge colleagues from other City law firms via networking groups.
  • Attending webinars hosted by regulatory and industry bodies such as the Investment Association, LSE, FCA, FRC and the Quoted Companies Alliance.

Personal Specification – Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ideally at least 5 years’ PQE and high-quality fee earning experience at a leading City firm (in particular, in public M&A and/or ECM). Knowledge experience may be beneficial but is not a pre-requisite, the firm will consider a fee-earner who is looking to step into a knowledge role.
  • A first-class technical lawyer who can keep pace with fast-moving legal and regulatory change and intuitively understand its impact on our practice and our clients.
  • Sound understanding of:
  • Listing Rules, Prospectus Regulation Rules, DTRs.
  • AIM Rules.
  • Corporate governance guidelines, including UK Corporate Governance Code and industry guidelines.
  • Takeover Code.

Please note our advertisements use PQE/salary levels purely as a guide. However we are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil the role.

Please note that your personal information will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
