Job description

The Pupil Reintegration Team has a new, exciting opportunity for a Pupil Reintegration Officer within our friendly, hardworking team across the County. Could you support students who are returning to school after a period of absence or exclusion to ensure they get a good education?

About the role

The role of Pupil Reintegration Officer involves providing strategic leadership of the Pupil Reintegration Team and all services arising from the Lincolnshire Ladder of Intervention, school exclusions, Hard to Place pupils,  pupils reintegrating from special schools and pupils identified under Section 19 of the 1996 Education Act.

The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the reintegration of pupils into mainstream schools from special schools, alternative providers and following a permanent exclusion.  They will also assist in the delivery of the LA statutory duty to all pupils including those excluded from school or unable to attend school due to ill health or otherwise.   They will deliver professional challenge, advice and guidance to Headteachers and Senior School staff on education legislation, national and local policies.

They will also develop, co-ordinate and facilitate cohesive working between the LA, maintained schools, academies, special schools and alternative providers providing a conduit for good practice to be identified and shared, promoting inclusion across the sector.

The Pupil Reintegration Officers support the Head of Service for Inclusion and Team Manager (Inclusion) in embedding the LA Higher Needs Strategy to build capacity in mainstream schools to provide for pupils presenting a broad range of additional needs without recourse to specialist services, support and provision.

About the team

The Pupil Reintegration Team are a service to support schools and children that are experiencing challenging behaviour and emotional based school avoidance (EBSA). We promote the inclusion of vulnerable young people and help to reduce isolation and exclusion from school.

About you

We are seeking someone with knowledge and experience of the Lincolnshire Transition Protocol, Lincolnshire Ladder of Behavioural Intervention, the Lincolnshire Emotional Based School Avoidance Pathway and relevant legislation and guidance will be needed as will an understanding of the Special Educational Needs and Disability systems. You'll have good negotiation skills, knowledge of the school system and the ability to work under pressure are all key skills for this role as well as being able to work to a tight deadline.
