Purchasing Officer

Location: Ipswich

Working Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (Some flexibility on starting times)

Salary: Will be discussed with consultant

Holiday Entitlement: 22 days plus bank holidays; increasing with service.

What are we looking for from you?

  • Previous experience in a fast-paced Purchasing department
  • The ability to manage multiple projects at the same time efficiently and to a high standard
  • A self-motivated individual who can work well alone or as a team
  • Confidence to challenge decisions at all levels when required
  • Good knowledge of IT systems, including Microsoft Office
  • Advantageous, but not essential - Working towards CIPS & knowledge of SAP

The role

Purchasing Officer Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership and manage specific suppliers/categories for Custom, Standard, Raw materials, and Services
  • Oversee purchase order process, expediting, and communication of changes/delays
  • Handle price negotiations, suggest alternative vendors, and manage lead times, drop ship conditions and payment terms
  • Resolve invoice queries and lead SKU rationalization and product alternatives
  • Act on daily, weekly, and monthly reports, support Product Management with sourcing intelligence

Supplier Performance:

  • Manage supplier performance, issue monthly reports, escalate issues when needed, and participate in supplier review meetings

Cost Savings and Inventory Management:

  • Contribute to annual cost savings goals, consider inventory risks, assist in reviewing obsolete/excess inventory, and support inventory management reviews

Team Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Respond promptly to internal/external requests and provide cover during team absence periods.
