The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by UASC and will be passionate about advocating for their rights and well-being. As a UASC Social Worker, you will play a vital role in providing practical support, guidance, and advocacy to empower these vulnerable young people to thrive in their new environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children's (UASC) needs, including their social, emotional, and practical support requirements.
- Develop and implement care plans tailored to the individual needs of each UASC, ensuring they have access to essential services, including housing, education, healthcare, and legal support.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to UASC, acting as their advocate and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
- Work collaboratively with partner agencies, including immigration services, legal representatives, educational institutions, and community organizations, to coordinate support and services for UASC.
- Monitor and review the progress of UASC, identifying any emerging needs or concerns and adjusting support plans accordingly.
- Support UASC in navigating the asylum process, providing information, guidance, and emotional support throughout the process.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to UASC during times of acute distress or instability, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions, assessments, and interventions in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to working with UASC.
- Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in the field of asylum and immigration, applying this knowledge to inform practice and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified Social Worker.
- Previous experience working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) or vulnerable migrant populations, preferably within a social services or humanitarian organization.
- Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to asylum and immigration, including the rights and entitlements of UASC.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
