QC Manager
Full Time with weekend working on a rota basis
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Quality Team, toensure that our high standards of quality and traceability are maintained
As a Quality Control Manager you will be directly responsible for the QCfunctions including leading a team of QC staff, to ensure the whole siteincluding our potatoes and vegetable operations are covered andtechnical systems are maintained.
This role will report into the Senior Process & Quality Manager.
Key responsibilities:
- Understand and comply with all MFL policies and procedures, in particular, the areas covered by health, safety, welfare and hygiene.
- Respect the health & safety of all colleagues, maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring safe working practices.
- Ensure that the Company fulfils its obligations in accordance with the Food Safety Act and adhere to Company’s hygiene standards.
- Enable the Company to achieve statements set out in its Food Safety and Quality Policy Statement.
- Communicate effectively with managers and other employees.
- Have a knowledge and understanding of all aspects of QC.
- Ensure that you are trained in all specifications, standard QC procedures and products.
- Ensure all QC areas are clean and tidy.
- Evaluate customers, both internal and external, quality requirements and inform all relevant parties.
- Keep managers aware of quality assurance activities, especially when standards fall below expectations.
- Ensure that the necessary quality assurance functions, procedures, tests and assessments of all products, are applied to all products, for all customers.
- On instruction, conduct internal audits.
- Ensure that all audits are completed, per the schedule.
- Ensure all QC paperwork, and printing paperwork, is correct.
- Have a good understanding of the Olympus systems and be able to implement all relevant computer procedures.
- Have a full knowledge and understanding of all aspects of printing, including the implementation of procedures associated with printing.
- Have a full understanding of the grading capability and operation of the Oculas graders.
- Assist with sample collecting when required, up to 20kg.
- Help with any investigation into adverse customer comments, complaints or rejections, and on instruction take necessary corrective action in the shortest practical time scale.
- Work alongside the QC Technician, covering both technician and supervisor duties.
- Assist managers in dealing with customer and outside regulatory body visits as required, eg customer site visits, accreditation and auditing visits.
- Ensure that cover for your area is always in place, to support the production area.
- Apply a rota system to cover overtime and weekend cover.
- Train new staff, and act as a mentor/buddy for them.
- Train an appointed person in your role, to ensure consistent cover when you are on holiday or absent.
- Provide leadership and direction to QC team.
- Work with technical team and product to manage quality of product.
- Drive GMP and food safety standards & manage HACCP implementation.
- Ensure QC and harvest teams’ compliance with latest customer and industry standards.
- Collaborate with the technical & product managers to develop research and development (R&D) strategies targeting QC management & quality improvement goals to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Develop and implement LEAN practices to identify and eliminate waste across the area of responsibility.
Person Specification
Essential
- Speaking/Listening – Level 1, Reading – Entry 3, Writing – Entry 3, Maths – Level 1
- Conscientious, punctual and reliable.
- Shows commitment to the company, and acts with integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
- An eye for detail.
- Confident use of IT.
- Flexible – able to respond and adapt to a variety of situations in order to meet the changing requirements of the job.
- Physical fitness – the work is physical and involves some heavy lifting.
- Previous QC supervisory/management experience.
