Job Introduction

The role of Quantity Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate and value generating input to projects. The role ensures that all commercial aspects are carried out in accordance with the contract, company policies and procedures, and to the satisfaction of the customer and/or contract leader. This role may work independently or under the direction of a more senior Quantity Surveyor. The QS will be able to demonstrate the ability to function as a member of an integrated team.

Main Responsibilities

Change Control Management:

  • Inputting to the efficient and effective management and issuance of accurate, timely, and compliant notices and correspondence related to change control.
  • Assessing and preparing early warning notices, compensation event notices, valuations, and cost/value reconciliations for changes.
  • Assisting in risk and value management activities to optimize solutions and regularly reviewing and analysing commercial risks with the project team, through measures such as risk reduction meetings
  • Managing contracts, including utilising relevant contractual forms, methods of budgetary control, and applicable software applications.
  • Ensuring all notifications and documents related to change control are managed in accordance with the contract.
  • Liaising with the site team, client and stakeholders’ representatives on change control matters.
  • Providing contractual advice to the project/site team as needed.
  • Reporting health, safety, and environmental risks
The Ideal Candidate
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen with NEC3 experience
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Practical approach, logical thought process, and a methodical way of working.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in technical minute-taking at contractual meetings and ability to collate information and prepare reports.
  • Experience in drafting contractual correspondence on behalf of the Project Manager
  • Strong negotiation, team-working, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of legal, contractual, and construction aspects.
  • Confidence and ability to assert influence.
  • Holds an RICS/CICES accredited degree or enrolled in an accredited part-time post-graduate degree with at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Full membership of RICS or CICES is desirable or enrolled in the approved training scheme for membership.
About The Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
