Bates & Bradshaw are recruiting on behalf of a major Construction & Maintenance company in the Hull area who operate as one of the leading building, repairs, and maintenance contractors. They are presently employing around 500 people and have a turnover of 50 million and they have some ambitious plans in place to grow this again over the coming years.
Role Description
Bates & Bradshaw are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to initially oversee a New Home 27-unit development in the Hull area, along with other major refurbishment projects.
This is a new role which offers an opportunity to join the company at the start of this exciting time for the Company. The role will be reporting directly to the Commercial Manager. The position commands all the benefits of a well-established 50-million-pound turnover organisation.

Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the procurement of sub-contractors
- Measurement and Agreement of Sub Contractor or Labour only payments
- Preparation, submission and agreement of interim Valuations
- Monthly Cost Value Reconciliations
- Assist the Commercial Manager in preparation of Out Turn Reports
- Preparation, of Bills of Quantity
- Liaising with site management and recording of contract valuations
- Agreement of Final Accounts
- Preparation of cost plans and forecasts
- Assist the Site manager in material call offs
- Assist in Contractual disputes
- Form close relationships with internal & External Stakeholders
Qualifications
- HNC / HND in Construction / recognised Quantity Surveying qualification (essential)
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (preferred)
- Membership of a relevant Professional Body e.g. RICS, MCIOB or Associate working towards qualification (preferred)
- CSCS Card (preferred)
Person Specification
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor working on newbuild housing developments is essential.
- Full UK driving licence
- Four Years Experience in Quantity Surveying on New Housing Projects
- A working knowledge of the JCT forms of contract. NEC desirable, but not essential
- Strong commercial awareness
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes
- Awareness of codes of practice that impact on Construction matters e.g. NHBC, Building Regulations, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Creates a positive environment which drives a culture of respect and mutual support within the team.
- An ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to analyse technical and commercial aspects of developments and apply solutions in terms of time, cost, quality, and best use of available resources.
- You will be confident and proactive individual
- A knowledge of the subcontract labour and labour only markets would be advantageous
