TUV SUD are now looking for a Radiation Physics, Shielding & Criticality Consultant to work as part of a team of 7 other Radiation Physicists, supporting Civil Nuclear, Defence, Research and Medical Industries.
Professional Training and Mentoring will be provided. Initially office based with potential to move to a hybrid working environment in the future.
Responsibilities and authority:
As a Radiation Physics & Shielding Consultant within the Nuclear Technologies Division of TÜV SÜD, responsibilities include the following:
- Radioactive Inventory Decay Calculations and Source Term Derivation.
- Radiation Transport Calculations using Monte Carlo (e.g. MCNP) and Deterministic (e.g. Attila) Simulation Techniques via Supercomputing Cluster.
- Application of Analytical / Hand Calculation Techniques.
- Dose Assessment of Processes / Facilities with an associated External Radiation Hazard (e.g. Decommissioning Facilities, Nuclear Reactors or Fusion Prototypes).
- Activation Analysis and Calculation of Residual Nuclides and Dose Rates.
- Criticality Safety Analysis.
- Delivery and Review of Technical Documentation.
- Client Liaisons and Integration with other industry professionals.
Education and Experience
- Physics Degree - courses with a particular focus on Nuclear Science are preferrable but not essential. Masters and PhD level qualifications also an advantage.
- Considering Graduates to Early Nuclear Industry Careers Professionals. Experience in other relevant scientific communities may be considered
Essential Criteria:
- Good (2:1 or higher) Degree in Physics.
- Computational Acumen.
- Data Handling and Analysis.
- Delivering and Review of Technical Documentation.
- Effective Communication Skills.
- Willingness to undergo Security Vetting.
Desirable:
- Monte Carlo or Deterministic Simulation Experience – especially with a focus on Nuclear Science and/or widely used software (e.g. MCNP, Attila).
- Experience of using LINUX.
- Coding Language Experience (e.g. C++, Python).
