About the Role
Roughly half of Haleon’s growth is expected to come from innovation. This role ensures we are making the right project decisions across the enterprise and driving the right project work to achieve that growth. By understanding the strength or challenges of the R&D innovation pipeline, this role enables GMs and Category Heads to understand and address their innovation challenges which impact how they set their business strategy.
In this exciting new role, the R&D Portfolio Management and Performance Head will bring Enterprise visibility of our end-to-end innovation pipeline and provide analyses of pipeline strength and opportunities vs Haleon’s growth agenda. You’ll own the global innovation stage gate process and Portfolio Management process, reporting and supporting multiple project and governance teams to bring the right projects most effectively through the pipeline.
You’ll be tasked with driving standards, project management process optimization and facilitate global Project Managers’ development. You’ll be accountable for the Project Management community of practices and drive a number of critical R&D LT strategic initiatives. Alongside this you’ll lead monthly R&D portfolio reviews and quarterly Enterprise Innovation Board meetings, co-chaired by the Chief R&D Officer and Chief Marketing Officer.
This role reports directly into our Chief R&D Officer and works closely with the R&D LT. A significant part of Haleon’s growth strategy is expected to be delivered by product innovation, you’ll ensure we’re making the right project decisions across the enterprise and driving the right projects to achieve this ambition.
This role has global breadth of impact and works across Haleon interacting with regional business unit General Managers and Global Category Heads and their leadership teams to understand how the innovation pipeline will impact business performance in the short, medium and long term.

In partnership with Finance and Commercial leadership teams, deliver end-to-end Enterprise innovation performance and pipeline metrics and reporting, including key projects status and risk mitigation plans.
Provide reports and recommendations to enable critical steering committees (Enterprise Innovation Board, Regional Portfolio Reviews), Board meetings, and external communications.
Portfolio system owner, provide requirements and oversee development of reporting and data visualization, ensuring user interface is optimized for a wide breadth of stakeholders. Drive data accuracy and further explore/implement agile and more efficient automated reporting.
Owner of innovation governance and stage gate process, ensures processes are optimized and fit for purpose and used consistently across organization. Lead quarterly Enterprise Innovation Board (co-chaired by Chief R&D Officer and Chief Marketing Officer) and provide the enterprise with accurate pipeline visibility and assessment of our long-term strategy and growth agenda.
Support the R&D leadership team via leadership meeting management, scorecard reporting, initiative management and pipeline progress meetings. Lead monthly R&D portfolio reviews with deep portfolio assessment and calls for actions.
Accountable for the Project Management Community of Practice, sharing and promoting best practices, coaching PMs and Portfolio managers, and supporting overall PM capability development. You’ll drive a continuous improvement mindset across the PM community.
Encourage an inclusive environment and drive a performance culture.
Lead a team of two Portfolio Managers and one Process and Community of Practice Lead.
Key measures of success include the following:
Create compelling innovation portfolio recommendations based on financials, project KPIs and business strategy for senior leaders and project governance decision making.
Identify and implement simplification within the innovation process.
Addresses challenges and enhancements raised by the project management community.
Perform ad hoc analyses and drive initiated initiatives assigned by Chief R&D Officer.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
Bachelor’s in Science, Finance or Business.
Demonstrable track record of relevant transferable experience – 10+ years.
Proven track record in project and Portfolio Management highly advantageous.
Strong knowledge of Project Management principles and best practices.
Prior experience in supporting/driving portfolio decisions.
Understanding of key business processes and functions within an FMCG or CPG company
General understanding of activities and interdependencies required for consumer health product innovation, from consumer insight, product development and testing, marketing, manufacturing scale up, Board of Health registration, quality, release and launch to markets.
P&L and financial analyses expertise to drive portfolio decisions.
Ability to grasp complex, highly interdependent issues and distil into practical, implementable solutions.
Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity and high levels of uncertainty.
Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting to all levels of the organization, ability to engage and influence senior leaders.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
MBA.
Project and Portfolio Management Certifications.
Equal mix of Project and Portfolio Management experience.
