Job description

Thank you for considering a Social SwitchYouth Mentor role with Redthread. We are a team of compassionate, collaborative and courageous professionals, committed to empowering young people to change their lives.

The Social Switch Project is switching the narrative on how social media’s relationship to youth violence is understood, tackled and solved.  The  Mayor of London and its Violence Reduction Unit is now supporting our next phase, backing our work to divert at-risk youth towards fulfilling digital careers. This programme is delivered by RedThread, and charities Catch22 and funded by the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit.

To truly have an impact on levels of youth violence in London we must tackle the cause; disenfranchised young people operating in a radically changing world, often without positive alternatives.

Working within our Social Switch team you will be a Social Switch Youth Mentor working within local communities to support programme users to progress into apprenticeships, employment, education, and training opportunities.

In this role we are looking for a Social Switch Youth Mentor to provide tailored career guidance and occasionally deliver facilitated employability workshops to those enrolled on the programme. We want someone who is ready to champion the rights and needs of those facing barriers to work, and is committed to delivering the best they can, for the people on the programme

You will manage a caseload of service users and develop bespoke plans to support these individuals throughout their journey towards progression. It would be beneficial to have an awareness of the digital or technical sectors and/or apprenticeships.

To succeed in this role, you need to be a people person; passionate about supporting young people, who advocates for a trauma-informed approach for the team and for the young people we support. You’ll have extensive experience working with young people who are vulnerable and high risk, an understanding of the impact intense, short term work can have, and a good understanding of the support eco-system they need. You need to be excited at the prospect of working in a fast-paced and exceptionally busy environment and trauma setting. Resilience, self-reflection and flexibility are all essential to this role in Redthread and you will participate regularly in clinical supervision to broaden your practice and emotional literacy.

You must also be a skilled communicator: as comfortable building a relationship with a young person as you are liaising with our partners.  You’ll be keen to keep learning, seizing training opportunities at Redthread and continuously reflecting upon and improving your practice.

In return, the successful candidate will receive a competitive salary, a supportive and flexible working environment, excellent staff training and development package and access to a range of employee benefits including; enhanced annual leave and family leave entitlements, employer pension scheme contribution, access to clinical supervisions, enhanced employee assistance programme services and more.

As this role requires an NHS honorary contract, as well as Redthread benefits, you’ll also have unique access to generous NHS discount and blue light schemes too.

The offer of employment is conditional on satisfactory pre-employment checks.  Redthread is not a Home Office-licensed visa sponsor, evidence of the right to work in the UK will need to be provided at Interview stage.
