Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible person committed to supporting people with mental health to achieve their employment and wellbeing goals.  You will use your own lived experience to work with people to support them to identify goals and work together to find the right resources and support for their needs.  You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to using a strength based and client led approach.

What is a Peer Worker?

The Peer Worker job is a rewarding and dynamic role where no day is the same and you’ll be making a genuine difference to people’s lives.  You will support people to be able to identify their goals, agree actions and support people to access opportunities in the local community.  Sharing your lived experience will help our clients feel confident in taking on new challenges and to be able to develop skills that will help them support themselves in the long term.

This role will focus on people with mental health issues who are over 50s. Older people with mental health have been shown to experience additional mental health challenges linked to social isolation and feelings of low self worth, often following changes to their employment and role in the community.

This role will be based in our office in Bethnal and in the community, with an offer of working one day a week from home.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome applications from all experience levels and backgrounds but ideally you will have completed a peer support training course.

You will be willing to share their lived experience of mental health, either personal or through a close relationship, to support others, to develop strategies to address their own mental health challenges.

You will be able to think creatively to problem solve to create a successful outcome for clients.

A good communicator who will be able to engage with our clients and our partners.
