Post No.PE1061 - Regional Intelligence Analyst


National Trading Standards funds a network of Intelligence Analysts across England and Wales. The Welsh unit is hosted by Newport City Council and has been since 2006.


The role requires analysis of intelligence supplied by trading standards professionals and partners and the production of products that will help managers and officers make intelligence led decisions.


The role involves close working relationships with other intelligence and enforcement officers and is embedded in a supportive team at Newport City Council.


This is an annual contract that is expected to continue each year for the foreseeable future.


This is a challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated intelligence professional.


Being part of a friendly, hardworking and supportive team, you will undertake a range of duties including:

  • Utilising a range of analytical techniques to deliver intelligence led outcomes for matters in relation to consumer and business related detriment
  • Interpret a wide range of information to produce strategic and tactical intelligence on trends within the Trading Standards remit
  • Preparation of the intelligence products required to inform the regional tasking and co-ordinating process, providing the link between operational and intelligence functions
  • Disseminate intelligence to trading standards professionals
  • Participate in regional and national networks on trading standards intelligence capability


You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a numerate discipline or demonstrate a high level of experience in the field.


Experience of computer manipulation, research, geographic information systems, analysis of complex data and of working in a law enforcement organisation where the National Intelligence Database is used in the production of intelligence.
