The Quality and Health and Safety (H&S) officer will work as part of the Operational and Laboratory Management Team and be responsible for the RMDS governance support functions including the gathering of United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and other quality system related information and share management of all associated risk and quality management systems. The post holder will produce governance reports and will work alongside the RMDS Discipline Manager, Operational and Laboratory Management Team in developing an integrated Quality and governance framework on behalf of the RMDS Service. He/she will be responsible for the monitoring, implementation and updating of health & safety (H&S) legislation and DHSSPS requirements. He/she will be responsible for monitoring H&S systems at discipline specific level ensuring that the discipline complies with all Trust H&S policies, Legislation and guidelines and also complies with UKAS ISO15189 and other accreditation requirements. He/she will be responsible for the discipline specific gathering of H&S related information and the management of associated H&S systems with particular relevance to accreditation bodies. The post holder will liaise with the BHSCT laboratory H&S team and line management in developing centralized policies, documentation and joint H&S policies, where applicable, in order to assist in the standardization across laboratory services. The post holder will monitor and audit laboratory Health & Safety at discipline specific level ensuring that the discipline complies with all the trust policies, legislation and guidance and with UKAS and other accreditation requirements..

Current registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).Must hold an MSc Biomedical Science; or an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma; or be a Fellow of the institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent , Experience in Molecular DiagnosticsA good knowledge of UKAS, ISO15189 standardsBe able to demonstrate extensive experience working in H&S or be able to demonstrate a considerable interest in H&S
