About the role

 

We are looking for Regional Strategy Engineers to join us in our Infrastructure Development team in our North (North Wales, North West, North East, South Yorkshire and Humber) andCentral (M1corridor – Nottingham to Luton, East Anglia, Norwich, Cambridge & Chelmsford) regions working on a hybrid basis.

 

Infrastructure Development is a new team set up to support a number of new capabilities to the business. As a member of this team, the Regional Strategy Engineer will support the rest of the Electricity Transmission (ET) business providing regional context into site and circuit strategy development.

 

The role will involve taking data and information from the Strategic Investment Planning Engineers and linking in with the different business units across ET to support strategic optioneering. The role will require you to work closely with development and asset operations teams to ensure sites with more complex needs into the future are accounted for and co-ordinated alongside other drivers to help manage risk levels on the network.

We need to maintain our high standards of energy security and reliability whilst undertaking an ambitious upgrade and expansion of our transmission network to connect new renewable generation and meet new demand growth.

 

We need to ensure this is done in the most efficient, economic and timely way by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders in regard to our investments.

What you'll be doing

 

  • Using the centralised Network Drivers tool plus the Regional Strategy framework, maintain and update a regional level view of our strategic direction.
  • Development and maintenance of Regional Strategy mapping and visualisation tools
  • Provide ownership of allocated regional strategies to support development teams across ET
  • Work with Network Development and stakeholders (internal & external) to identify optimum electrical design options for the region.
  • Overlay the load and non-load network drivers for the region to Identify synergies and whole system opportunities at strategic level. 
  • Support an external view of these regional strategies to allow stakeholders to both inform their plans and also feedback so we can understand/align our requirements.    
  • Coordinate and chair, regional strategic cross-functional workshops to enable alignment between ET business units on strategic investments.
  • Support external stakeholder meetings e.g. RESP(NESO), OFGEM, Combined Authorities, DNO bi-laterals.  
  • Track and drive actions from the cross functional and external engagements to ensure regional strategies are progressed
  • Work closely with the Asset Operations site strategy & our development team to help manage long term investment and network risk management plans 
  • First point of contact for the various Electricity Transmission business units on regional information.

What you'll need

 

  • STEM Degree (or equivalent) or relevant experience
  • Passion for customer and commercial awareness - ability to engage customers, understand feedback and translate those into actionable pieces of work.
  • Advanced stakeholder management - collaborating successfully across ET with the ability to build good relationships at all levels within the business.
  • Some experience of working with external regulatory bodies, relevant industry groups and customers
  • Project/change management - experience in embedding and sustaining new processes
  • Knowledge of power system theory and its practical application to electricity networks.
  • Understanding of National Grid Electricity Transmission HV transmission assets
  • Understanding of the RIIO regulatory price control processes and relevant funding mechanisms.
  • Good knowledge of the electricity industry including a thorough understanding of how this impacts National Grid.
