Job Title and Grade: Band 8a Pharmacist Specialist

Location/Trust: Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

Pay Rates: Days: £26.06

The Role:

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides hospital-based services from three main sites - the Alexandra Hospitalin Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, and Worcestershire Royal Hospitalin Worcester - as well as some community-based services.

The pharmacy department is based across two sites (Alexandra Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital) and provides services to all hospitals within the Worcestershire County area, including community hospitals.

The pharmacy team has around 160 staff all working together to provide a pharmaceutical service within the acute trust.

The post holder:

· Will be responsible for delivering the highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to General Surgery

· Will deliver specialised knowledge of medicines and nutrition support to provide advice to consultants, medical, nursing and pharmacy staff on all pharmaceutical aspects of medicines for patients.

· Will deliver pharmaceutical care to surgical patients; recommend, substantiate, and communicate best therapeutic options for patients and implement changes in prescribing practice to ensure evidence-based medicine is followed as appropriate.

· Will identify medicine-related causes for admission and develop treatment plans to optimise care, deprescribing where appropriate.

· Will undertake risk management for the pharmacy service to allocated wards and ensure compliance with medicines legislation, the Trust Medicines Policy, and medicines related national and local guidelines.

· Will undertake clinical audit of medicine use and pharmacy services within the surgical areas.

· Will facilitate the ward-based medicines management pharmacy service to achieve Trust and departmental medicines management.

Skills/Responsibilities:

To apply for this post, you will:

· Registered Pharmacist (GPhC) with secondary care experience i.e., ward clinical pharmacy experience.

· First degree in Pharmacy or equivalent

· Desirable to hold a clinical pharmacy diploma.

· Experience within NHS pharmacy practice

· Evidence of commitment to CPD as a minimum to meet mandatory requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council

· Effective communication and telephone skills

· Methodical accurate working

· Good time management

In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of

  • Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable
