St Helena Island, South Atlantic

1 years FTC available immediately

£20k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

You will implement, and maintain quality evidence-based nursing care using best practice guidance, through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, managing the patients in the absence of the Medical Officers.

Administering and dispensing medications, you will undertake emergency triage and provide emergency services using advanced resuscitation skills. You must supervise unqualified staff, mentor student nurses and nursing assistants and provide learning opportunities for junior staff and students, including classroom teaching. You will assist with the development of policies, procedures and protocols and with audits/reviews.

A Registered Nurse holding relevant nursing qualifications with NMC or SANC, you are familiar with the Nurses Code of Practice and have knowledge of Health and Social Welfare’s policies and procedures. Your excellent interpersonal and communication talents encompass the ability to interact with patients/clients and their relatives, members of the public, colleagues and junior staff, advocating for patients/clients and work colleagues. Your IT skills enable you to produce accurate and clear written communications and prepare concise, relevant and timely reports.Flexibilit towards your working hours will be essential.

As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
