Registration Officer

Fixed Term, Full Time

Up to £25,037 per annum

Location: Saffron Walden

Working Style: Fixed-base worker

Please note this role is a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months.

This role will be based at Saffron Waldon and Great Dunmow offices but there will be the expectation to cover other offices as required.

Working hours typically 8.50am-5.15pm. Saturday working also required typically 1 Saturday in 4.

The Opportunity

The Registration Officer plays a key role in delivering the core activities of the Essex Registration Service on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that customers receive the high-quality service required to meet statutory duties. This role is primarily involved in the registering of Births, Deaths, Stillbirths and re-registrations, in addition to taking Notices of Intent for Marriage and Civil Partnership.

The role is fully trained, competent and experienced in undertaking all legislative and statutory duties and functions, ensuring compliance with General Register Office (GRO) governance and regulations, to meet all Key Performance Indicators set out in the code of practice. The role also interacts with other partners and stakeholders where necessary to achieve desired outcomes.

Regular training is essential to ensure the postholder delivers an effective, accurate and professional service to our customers. The legal records created at the time of Registration are kept indefinitely and are part of a family's history and our national archive so must be accurate.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work for one of the largest registration authorities in the country alongside a highly dedicated, passionate team who want to deliver the best possible service to the residents of Essex during momentous and emotional events in their lives.

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for ensuring Registrations are completed in an accurate and timely manner, and regulations are adhered to as set out in the Handbooks for Registration Officers
  • Working collaboratively and engaging with appropriate stakeholders and partners to define requirements and achieve quality, timely and accurate Registrations
  • Responsible for using specialist skill, knowledge, and experience to ensure the effectiveness of the Registration activities to ensure that a high-quality service for the customer is achieved
  • Responsible for meeting customer standards and ensuring consistent adherence to outcomes and agreed service levels
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all external and internal regulation such as end of day accounting and stock management
  • Responsible for working flexibly and collaboratively across structural boundaries as part of project and process teams in support of key outcomes

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Evidence of commitment to Customer Care and Service Improvement
  • Evidence of good attention to detail skills and delivering high quality and accurate outcomes in a relevant service
  • Experience of working in a political environment with skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives
  • Competence in using IT and Office based applications such as Excel, Word and Microsoft Teams
  • Educated to 'A' level/NVQ 3 or equivalent by experience
  • While experience of working in the Registration service, such as Registering Births, Deaths, and taking Notices of Marriage and Civil Partnership, would be an advantage, it is not essential, as full training can be provided
