About the role

Base Location: Aberdeen, Perth or Inverness (other locations, including Glasgow, will be considered). Hybrid working with a split between home and office is available for this role to support your work/life balance.

Salary: £53,100 - £79,700 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSEN Transmission is experiencing significant growth driven by the need to connect considerable volumes of renewable generation onto our network to facilitate the pathway to Net Zero.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Regulation Manager to join SSEN Transmission and be at the forefront of helping drive our ambitious £multi-billion 'Pathway to 2030 programme. This will involve engagement with the regulator, Ofgem, to lead the development of key regulatory reform affecting SSEN Transmission and manage a portfolio of regulatory projects/submission, making use of various price control mechanisms and the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework to secure efficient funding for investment in the north of Scotland electricity transmission network. The role will also lead and oversee development of regulatory policy across several critical workstreams seeking outcomes aligned with the SSEN Transmission strategy.

The Key Responsibilities of a Regulation Manager include:

- Overseeing the development, through thorough team research and analysis, regulatory policy across several critical workstreams whilst successfully advocating for our strategic goals across each of these key areas.

- Managing and co-ordinating regulatory projects to a timely and successful outcome. Your ability to provide regulatory support across our business and the wider SSE Group while also line managing those in your team will be key to your success.

- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, in particular Ofgem, influencing the external regulatory environment through regular communication and engagement, responding to industry consultations and other submissions and representing SSEN Transmission at industry forums.

- Providing effective coaching, guidance, and development to enhance the development, skills and knowledge of others, both within the Transmission Regulation Team and across the SSEN Transmission business.

- Management of a small team of industry experts with a continual focus on staff development.

In meeting your responsibilities, you will be given unyielding support from your colleagues in the Regulation Team as well as from your wider SSEN Transmission colleagues.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Experience in utility regulation and ideally you should be qualified to degree level in one of the following disciplines: Economics, Business, Science, Engineering or Law.

- Knowledge of the regulatory framework in GB energy and of the energy sector; the key stakeholders and the policy landscape, and the impact of broader political and policy development on a regulated company;

- The ability to efficiently identify, determine cause, propose and implement solutions to solve problems using a logical and analytical reasoning process to break down and work through a situation or problem to arrive at an outcome.

- Strong communication and writing skills (i.e., being able to articulate complex issues in a succinct and accurate manner).

- Demonstrated ability to operate outside your area of expertise, engaging with subject matter experts to gather and present relevant information to develop investment cases, inform policy and develop strategy; and

- Experience in leading expert teams during bespoke projects and ideally line management experience.
