Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Remote Monitoring Controller to join the Monitoring and Control Team in Central Operations at United Utilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a company named as one of the Best Places to Work in 2020 by Glassdoor. The role is a 6-month contract initially, with the opportunity for this to be extended and the possibility to explore permanent roles within the department and wider business. Working an average of 37 hours per week this is a shift role that will include 2 days,2 nights, 4 off, 2 spares (days or nights) and 2 off (12-hour shifts). The role is based on-site at United Utilities' fantastic head office in Great Sankey, Warrington.

The RMC provides a strong, reliable monitoring capability which will proactively monitor asset condition 24/7/365 a year, whilst also ensuring appropriate control actions are taken to ensure we protect our assets, our people and our business reputation. This role is critical in managing asset data & alarms and ensuring that any deviations & events are resolved promptly. This will require you to proactively analyse various sources of information including telemetry data, trends, workflow information, customer contact information and other sources be able to draw conclusions and ensure business response arrangements are in place where necessary. You will also be a key interface for teams within the field and the ICC.

Job Accountabilities

Case Managing critical Water quality & Wastewater compliance parameters in line with business & regulatory expectations you will also be responsible for:

  • Ensuring effective 24/7/365 management of alarms.
  • Analysing the bigger picture of data and events to ensure existing or likely impacts are understood and responded to effectively.
  • Working on a rotation shift rota keeping high levels of focus, effectiveness and delivery on alarm and resources.
  • Full compliance with existing H&S regulations, SOP and SLA after provided training.
  • Attention to detail, versatility and effective ownership of several simultaneous events.
  • Resilience, management of telemetry under pressure and/or occasional high work load as a result of daily demand patterns, weather phenomena or exceptional local or regional events.
  • Knowledge or openness to learn and understand existing regional water systems and wastewater systems in order to efficiently assess significance, impact and required response from M&C team.
  • Work towards higher level of knowledge of existing water treatment processes across the business and its direct correspondence with existing regional systems for improved management of telemetry.
  • Proactive engagement with existing corporate tools on alarms prevention and reduction in line with business requirements and targets.

Knowledge and Skills

To be considered for this role you will need the ability to analyse various sources of data, draw conclusions and assist with formulating response plans. It is expected that you will be of an enthusiastic, committed personality with a strong work ethic.
You will also have:

  • The ability to use multiple IT systems.
  • The correct behaviours in line with business expectations and able to demonstrate on a daily basis.
  • Ideally good knowledge of Telemetry Systems and processes
  • Ideally possess a working knowledge of Water & Waste Water process / network
  • Ideally good knowledge of tools such as click schedule

Additional Information

  • This is a rolling shift pattern which consist of; 2 dayshifts, 2 nightshifts, 4 days off, 2 spare shifts, 2 days off. This pattern is then repeated. The shifts are 12 hours 06:30-18:30 for dayshift and 18:30-06:30 for nightshift. The spare shifts may be dayshift or nightshift depending on business needs to fill any rota gaps, such as sickness or holiday cover.
