Job Description

The Company:

Green Cat Hydrogen Limited (GCH) is a dynamic and innovative green hydrogen project developer. GCH focus on the deployment of electrolytic hydrogen projects as a key part of the global energy transition and de-carbonisation strategy. The business works closely with sister companies through the planning, permitting/licensing, engineering and design and construction of green hydrogen projects.

Green Cat Hydrogen requires an engineer with strong quantitative skills, who is highly capable at coding, has a solid background in python software development and an interest in learning more about the hydrogen industry.

The Role:

  • The primary responsibility of the role is developing and updating our in-house modelling capabilities in a wide variety of areas, from energy market analysis to development of engineering models with subject experts.
  • Given the technical nature of these quantitative tasks it is essential that candidates have experience of modelling real world phenomena in code, ideally covering topics such as energy networks, renewables, grids, manufacturing, etc.
  • In this role you could find yourself working on tasks that require developing a fundamental understanding of the hydrogen industry and energy system, then applying strong problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team to solve complex real-world problems.

The Candidate must have:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s (or equivalent level) degree, with a greater portfolio of work required by less qualified candidates to demonstrate technical competence.
  • 0-5 years in software engineering/working in a quantitative role in the energy industry. Graduates with a relevant portfolio of coding work are invited to apply.
  • Python Programming Skills: Candidates should have a strong proficiency in Python, as they will be responsible for simulation modelling. They should be able to write clean, efficient, and maintainable Python code.
  • Simulation Modelling Skills: Experience with simulation modelling tools and libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or SimPy is essential. Candidates should be able to create, implement, and analyse simulation models with subject matter expert input to solve complex problems related to Renewable Energy systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • The ability to analyse complex problems, propose solutions, and implement them effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both for collaborating with team members and for potentially explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A growth mindset, being adaptable and willing to take on a variety of tasks, extending capabilities across pure coding tasks.
  • Great team working skills and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • The right to work in the United Kingdom, full-time, in perpetuity.

The candidate would benefit from:

  • Renewable Energy Knowledge: While not mandatory, candidates with knowledge of Renewable Energy technologies, such as solar, wind, or hydropower, may have an advantage in understanding and developing in-house models and tools.
  • Energy System Knowledge, such as an understanding of power flows, demand and supply and the sourcing and implementation of these datasets for modelling is highly advantageous.
  • Web Development: Experience with common web development frameworks such as Django or Flask, is a plus.
  • Data Analysis and Visualization: Proficiency in data analysis tools like Pandas and data visualization libraries like Matplotlib or Plotly can be valuable, especially in the context of Renewable Energy data analysis.
  • Portfolio or Project Experience: We encourage candidates to showcase relevant projects or simulations they have worked on, especially if they have experience in the Renewable Energy sector.

The employment package:

  • Competitive salary, negotiated depending on qualifications, experience, and skills.
  • Private Medical Healthcare
  • 25 Days annual leave and 8 flexible bank holidays
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Professional development opportunities and support.
  • Professional fees paid for by the company.
  • Company social events and team building days.
  • On-site parking with EV charging points available to staff.
  • Flexible working opportunities
