Job description

Job Purpose
Providing comprehensive and professional support to a research project developing novel treatments for depression and PTSD through the manipulation of member in sleep and administrative support to Professor Penny Lewis, the Principal Investigator on the project.
This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties
  • To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Administrative tasks will also include personal assistance work for the PI (Prof Penny Lewis)
  • To manage/maintain website pages related to the study and to the NaPS research group
  • To manage podcasts linked to the project, maintaining websites, editing episodes and planning episode communications
  • To plan public engagement events and conferences hosted by the project
  • To support and prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate
  • Work with others to make recommendations to improve our ways of working.
  • Establish productive relationships with key individuals (University colleagues and external contacts) to help improve the level of service the team provides to its customers.
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties to support the team and department achieve its objectives.
  • Gather and analyse data so that informed decisions can be made, establishing basic trends and patterns in the data and providing reports and recommendations for management.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Ability to communicate in writing clearly, concisely, and effectively to provide detailed advice and guidance.
  • Evidence of a good standard of numeracy and IT literacy.
  • Experience of working in an administrative role or environment and ability to set up standard office systems and procedures, making improvements to these as appropriate.
  • Specialist knowledge of managing websites and/or podcasts
  • Ability to communicate specialist and complex information effectively and professionally to a range of customers with varying levels of understanding.
  • Ability to advise and influence key stakeholders in your area of work.
  • Ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service you provide accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
  • Ability to use your initiative and creativity to solve problems, respond to queries and make recommendations, identifying and proposing practical solutions.
  • Ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning, setting and monitoring your priorities and those of the team.

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working in a similar role or environment, e.g. Higher Education.
  • Ability to speak/understand Welsh or a willingness to learn.

Cardiff School of Psychology
We are recognised internationally for sustained excellence in research, impact and research-led teaching. We are a large School with over 50 academic staff, over 600 undergraduates and 150 postgraduate students. Our collective aim is to understand the psychological and biological foundations of behaviour at both individual and group levels. The research undertaken in the School ranges from 'synapse to society', and includes normal behaviour in development and adulthood, the breakdown of cognition after stress, trauma and in neurological and/or genetic conditions, as well as key psychological issues of broad importance to society, such as prejudice, reproductive health and understanding risk. The School also contributes to cross-disciplinary University Research Institutes in Neuroscience and Mental Health, Sustainable Places, and Energy Systems Research.
